From Our President...
Dear Fellow Golf Course Owner,
I would like to thank all of you who participate in our local chapter activities to promote and protect the vital interests of our industry. I especially appreciate those who attended our SC Golf Course Owners Association's Golf Week meeting and the SCGA Legislative Reception/Golf outing. It was a wonderful time to meet with fellow owners and industry representatives. We traditionally have an excellent turnout as this occurs during SC Golf Week. During an event such as this, we can learn more about our industry through the co-operative exchange of ideas and information. I also want to thank the SCGA and all the sponsors who joined us for the day.
We look forward to this outing annually. Please add this event to your calendar. There are now five local chapters in the state and most of our members time is spent working together at the local chapter level with coordination through the SCGCOA office for state - wide issues such as property tax legislation and communications / chapter development. If you have a local chapter I encourage your involvement. If not, our director can help with formation.
As an owner of a golf course in Columbia I face the same challenges that all of you encounter in the golf industry but I am excited to tell you about the progress of the SC Golf Course Owners Association. Our success as an organization depends on the involvement of all owner/operators in SC. As critical issues arise affecting the golf industry, our strength will depend upon organization and how quickly and efficiently we can react.
An effective response requires constant feedback from our members. Many of you have already expressed concerns about issues such as government competition in our industry and water use. These issues represent only a fraction of the challenges we face. Our voices will be heard only if we are well organized and well funded. We have each made a great investment in our state; we need to work together to show a return. Many dedicated owners have given their time to develop the SC Golf Course Owners Association. These owners have joined in an association to take advantage of the numerous valuable benefits provided by a strong national and state association of golf course owners.
I invite you to consider joining the SC Course Owners Association. Your input on the issues is vital to the success of this organization. Please become involved. You will be glad you did.
Please contact our Executive Director, Terry Sedalik at 843 722 7799 for additional information.
